Exploring Abstraction

Thursday, January 25th 2018, 09:00 AM

Exploring Abstraction
January 25-27, 2018 (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.) — This workshop will cover how to simplify and deconstruct your paintings by understanding the concepts of both Abstraction and Realism. We will work on finding that space that exists between the two artistic genres in order to create more sophisticated, complex and refined paintings. The goal will be to move beyond the mere replication of a scene to convey message and meaning through composition, tone and brushstrokes. We will cover various aspects of materials and technique from palette color selection to the application of paint onto the canvas. Understanding artists' ideas from diverse artistic styles will help develop and improve how you progress in your own painting process and ultimately enhance the quality of your work. Visit website

Landscape in the Studio

Thursday, April 26th 2018, 09:00 AM

Landscape in the Studio
April 26-28, 2018 (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.) — Artists will receive challenging group and individualized instruction in studio painting. Dee will observe the artists’ works and help them to improve rather than change their individual styles. The emphasis will be on learning to see value changes, color temperatures, and composition. We will be building arrangements of abstract shapes that will form a strong foundation for the painting. There will be extensive studies on color temperature and value that will make the students’ paintings “sing” and vibrate with evocative color. The remainder of the day will be spent painting and Dee will be working with artists on an individual basis. Instruction will be with oils, however all mediums are welcome. Visit website
